Belek, Turkey, is a lively, modern and upmarket beach resort. It lies on the southwestern Mediterranean coast, 30 miles from the city of Antalya. Belek is in a beautiful setting, with the Taurus Mountains behind it and pine groves surrounding it. This is a great choice for a family sun, sea and sand vacation, but Belek is also a cultural destination, with several ancient archaeological sites in close proximity. Fly into Antalya International Airport (aytport.com), which is approximately 25 miles from downtown Belek. Most holiday packages include transfers, but airport taxis are also plentiful.

Belek enjoys around 300 days of sunshine each year, and you can swim in the sea from April to November. Summertime is hot and dry, with average daytime temperatures around 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Winter months are mild but rainy. Belek offers one of the few soft-sand beaches in Turkey, which stretches along 10 miles of coastline. The ancient 20,000-seat amphitheater at Aspendos has marvelous acoustics and is still used for concerts today. Nearby you can see the remains of a Roman aqueduct. Side, just along the coast, boasts an ancient harbor, Temple of Apollo and Roman baths, which house an archaeological museum.
